Wall Scouts visit to Dunkeswell Airfield Heritage Centre

Wall Scouts went to visit the Dunkeswell Airfield Heritage Centre as they were working on their Air Activities Badge.

This Scouts saw a substantial photographic collection of over 400 photographs that depict day to day life on the base during World War 2, as well as many WW2 artefacts.

The display tells the story from the construction, the USAAF and USN forces stationed there and RAF Coastal Command, to the eventual break-up of aircraft and its closure as a military base.

This base played a major role in the defence of the country’s supply lines – The Battle of the Atlantic – and the major deterrent it provided in its search and destroy missions. RAF Coastal Command, USAAF and the US Navy.

The Scouts also some of the aircraft that were on the runway.

A really informative evening for the Scouts which they all enjoyed.
